Alexis has a Bachelor of Arts with a specialization in music and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa. She is also a graduate of l’École nationale de la chanson de Granby (Granby, QC) - the only school for francophone songwriters in the country. Since her return home to Saskatchewan in 2008, she has worked actively in the Fransaskois community and has offered over 90 workshops to young Francophone and Francophile musicians. Alexis shares her passion for music and the arts in a dynamic and interactive presentation and strives to offer a positive musical experience. 

ARTIST TESTIMONY

(for students from 9-18 years)

What is it like to be a singer-songwriter? Through personal testimony, Alexis presents an overview of her career. How does she find inspiration? What are the tools and routines she uses for creating? How does she prepare for a show? Alexis shares anecdotes followed by a question period and a short acoustic musical performance.

DISCOVERING FRANCOPHONE MUSIC

(for students from 9-18 years)

Discover the artists of the Francophone music scene through active listening, Internet searches, sharing and discussion. Participants will discover Francophone music they enjoy and acquire the resources available to find from the Internet.

Workshop duration: 50 to 75 minutes
Number of participants: maximum 40 (or the number of computers)
Required equipment: a computer with Internet access for each group of 2 to 3 students

SONGWRITING

(for students from 9-18 years)

Learn the essential elements of songwriting through a collective creation. Participants will work together to write the lyrics of a song, compose music, rehearse and present it. Students will receive a demo of their song.

Duration of the workshop: half day of school
Number of participants: 2-40
Equipment Required: table and chalk, participants will need a pencil and a sheet of paper, dictionaries (rhymes, synonyms, French, symbols ... whatever you have in the Resource Centre)

INTERACTION BETWEEN VISUAL ART AND MUSIC

(for students from 9-18 years)

Discover the similarities between various art forms through creative exercises and exchanging ideas, images and words. Participants will learn how the interaction between music and visual art lead to the creation of works. Based on a theme chosen by the participants, they will be guided to complete the collective creation with two results: a song (music and lyrics) and a piece of visual art.

Duration of the workshop: half day of school
Number of participants: 2-40
Equipment Required: table and chalk, participants will need a pencil and a sheet of paper. The workshop leaders will provide the rest of the equipment.
